Choosing a Repair Shop

Here are some guidelines to use when shopping for a transmission repair center.

The facility operator should be willing to provide you with a worst-case estimate, before starting work on your vehicle. If the conversation seems vague, get it in writing.

The facility should provide a full coverage warranty. A 3 year warranty has become the industry standard among reputable shops.

The facility should have equipment specifically designed for working on advanced, late-model transmissions.

The technicians should have the skills and aptitude essential in diagnosing today’s sophisticated transmission problems.

The personnel should not pressure you into authorizing service until all of your questions have been answered.

The facility should be a member of a transmission technical support affiliation, such as Automatic Transmission Rebuilders Association (ATRA) or Automatic Transmission Service Group (ATSG).
